How to Play the Game

How you explore The Veiled Oasis is up to you, but my intention was for it to be approached as a game, with a single rule: Explore only through simple clicking of the links within the text. In other words, eschew "right-clicking" to open new tabs or windows in your browser; eschew the use of your browser's "Back" button; eschew any of the other ways of "hacking" the system that are likely to occur to you if you're fairly internet-savvy. I think the intended effect of the project comes across better that way, much as the intended effect of a standard paper or book comes across better if one starts with the first page and continues through, page-by-page, to the final one.

If you like games that have objectives as well as rules, then you can consider the object of the game to be: explore until you've read every page. The total number of pages in The Veiled Oasis is revealed on a page other than this one.
